Bumper fields for Wauchope’s return to racing

Wet weather has plagued Wauchope and the surrounding region in recent months, and as such, Wauchope Jockey Club has lost out on the chance to host multiple meetings.

In fact, the club hasn’t raced since hosting their Woop Woop Cup meeting on Boxing Day of last year.

That will change on Saturday though, with Wauchope Jockey Club set to host a bumper non-TAB five-race-program.

According to the club, they received record nominations, and 55 gallopers have accepted to race on the day.

“We are rapt, absolutely rapt in the fields,” said Wauchope Jockey Club CEO, Debbie Prosser.

“We still have a bit of a problem with the car parking area being a bit wet down the bottom, but the track is looking good and hopefully we get a few people out to the races on the day.”

The weather forecast looks to be on Wauchope’s side, and Prosser hopes the good weather stays around as the club looks to get back on track.

“We had a bit of a sprinkle the other night, but it only registered a couple of millimetres and today (Thursday) is fine and there is a bit of a breeze, and we hope it stays like that for the next couple of days,” Prosser said.

The club will host fashions on the field, while the race day coincides with the always popular Royal Randwick meeting and the running of the TAB Everest and The Kosciuszko, and Prosser hopes patrons get behind the club, with gate takings from the day going to charity.

“The gate will go towards charity and the money raised will be given to a breast cancer (organisation),” Prosser said,

“It’s Kosciuszko and Everest day, and hopefully they all come to watch those races, and with our meeting, that should be entertainment enough.”

Gates open at 12pm on Saturday and readers can click here for full fields.
