Cootamundra picnics postponed, new location to be confirmed

In what can only be described as disappointing for Cootamundra and surrounding communities, the annual Cootamundra Picnic Race Club meeting has been postponed.

Initially scheduled for Saturday, April 22, there had been some speculation that the track had not recovered following recent flooding.

On Monday, Racing NSW confirmed their decision to postpone the meeting to another location on May 13.

“The Cootamundra track has been deemed unsuitable for racing with the course not having recovered sufficiently from flood damage,” a Racing NSW statement read.

“This race meeting will now be held on Saturday, May 13, with a venue to be confirmed.”

The postponement comes after the Cootamundra racecourse received 100mm of rain in one downpour last month, leading to silt deposits and some ‘basketball-sized’ patches that were still slippery underfoot.

Recent rain hasn’t helped the club’s causes, and it’s a disappointing result, as the club had worked hard to have the racecourse in good condition following flooding in late 2022.

Please note, the Cootamundra Picnic Race Club will be hosting a phantom race day for anyone still interested in supporting the club and enjoying the off-track festivities usually associated with the picnics.
