Double delight: Tumut pick up two November meetings

Tumut Turf Club will host two extra meetings in November.

Tumut Turf Club will race twice in November after Racing NSW allocated the small Southern Districts club two extra non-TAB meetings, scheduled for Sunday November 7 and Saturday November 20.

Tumut generally race four times a year and will kick off their season on Saturday when hosting their traditionally Derby Day meeting.

The two additional November meetings will prelude the always-popular Boxing Day meeting on December 26, before the club races two more times in early 2022, hosting their Tumut Mile TAB meeting on January 15 and the Tumut Cup meeting on February 13.

Tumut Turf Club President, Dave Rosetta, was over the moon with the news, explaining his club had worked hard to be considered for these extra meetings.

“It’s absolutely a shot in the arm for our club,” Rosetta said.

“It justifies all the hard work we have put in and it shows we are going well enough to be considered for extra meetings.”

Rosetta said he had been in contact with Racing NSW about the possibility of hosting a meeting to replace Adaminaby and Hay’s abandoned meetings on November 20, but he never expected his club to be allocated two extra meetings.

“We sent an email to Brian Charman asking him if we could step in and host a meeting because Hay and Adaminaby were forced to abandon their meetings,” Rosetta said.

“We were prepared to race on the 20th, and any date really, but to get two meetings is just great.

“We have always been prepared to race for the industry – with or without crowds – and it shows that if you as a club make racing a priority, Racing NSW will make you a priority.”

Tumut have been advocating for extra meetings, and potential meeting upgrades in recent years, and Rosetta hopes that these added meetings will lead to something more permanent down the track.

“That’s the goal, we want extra meetings and upgrades. That has been our goal since the start,” Rosetta said.

“We have said if we can get more meetings, we will take them.”

This isn’t the first pop-up meeting in the Southern Districts this season, with Albury hosting a picnic race day back October 9.

The two extra Tumut non-TAB meetings scheduled by Racing NSW will somewhat help ease the pain in the Southern Districts and South East, after the both regions lost meetings at Grenfell and Jerilderie (September 25), Lockhart (October 1), Young (October 9), Bombala and Deniliquin (both October 16) and Balranald and Harden (both October 23).

Additionally, future meetings at Berrigan (October 30), Bong Bong (November 19) and Hay and Adaminaby (November 20) have been abandoned.

The Tumut programs are as followed.
