The Peter Sinclair-trained Fiocchi made a big move up the 2022 Picnic Champion Series leader board following his win in Saturday’s Talmoi Picnic Cup.

With the meeting moved from Talmoi to Moree due to the state of the track following the recent wet weather, the three-year-old was in his element, and thrived on his home surface, registering his third win there while adding to what is a terrific record at Moree (5:3-0-2).

The recent Boolooroo Picnic Cup winner finished fourth in the Mallawa Picnic Cip earlier this month when beaten by Danspur, but Fiocchi (Ricky Blewitt, $2) got one back on the Gavin Groth-trained galloper, beating Danspur (Nicholas Perrett, $3) by 0.57 of a length in the $9000 feature, while in third and two lengths off the pace was the Peter Sinclair-trained Boomi’s Buddy (John Wilson, $6).

The win means Fiocchi now has 19 Picnic Champion Series Points and sits 11th on the leader board, while Danspur’s second placing has the eight-year-old on 26 points and 4th on the leader board, meaning he is all but assured of a place in the $50,000 final at Coonamble on October 9.

Another galloper making moves up the ladder at Talmoi’s meeting was the Connie Greig-trained Get Up Aby, which won the 950m Talmoi Bracelet.

Get Up Alby (Leandro Ribeiro, $4.20) was the roughest of the small field of four, but he won his fourth career race at start 63, defeating the Peter Sinclair-trained Pyrmont (Ricky Blewitt, $1.60) by 0.85 of a length and in third and 0.97 of a length off the winner was the Leon Cross-trained Another Sheila (Ash Boyd, $2.60).

Get Up Alby now has 23 points and is eighth on the leader board, while Pyrmont is now in the top 20, with his 13 points moving him to 19th.

There are only three more chances to earn points in the 2022 Picnic Champion Series ahead of Coonamble’s final, with Nyngan (Duck Creek) racing on July 2, Wean racing on July 9, while Cobar’s meeting on August 20 rounds out the 2021/22 picnic racing season.
