Manning Valley Race Club in Taree will be the focus of punters on Friday, with the Krambach Cup headlining an entertaining eight-race-program.
The feature is a 1600m Open Handicap, with seven gallopers chasing the prize purse of $34,000.
At the top of the weights is Margie Bee, and she looks well placed, dropping back from the metro and provincial scene with two placings in her last three starts.
She won’t mind the heavy track (7:2-2-1) plus Kristen Buchanan has booked Jackson Searle, a 2kg claimer, for a bit of relief and she should be tough to beat.
Two runners back up from the Hastings Cup (1500m) last Friday at Port Macquarie.
The first is Tas Morton’s Mister Smartee, which got swamped in the last 200m to finish back in 7th (3.6 lengths).
His record over the mile isn’t great (8:0-1-0), however he did place in this race last year, so he could do it again.
Also out of the Hastings Cup is race winner, La Jolie Fille.
The Paul Perry trained mare stormed home to win well by half a length, which came off the back of a couple poor runs over unsuitable distances.
She looks a danger to my top pick, but my only concern is the wet track, with her runs in the wet resulting in a maiden win (soft 7), while the other two saw her finish seven lengths off the respective winners, however a couple things went against her in those races.
Joel & Wayne Wilkes bring along Party Host, who was an impressive last-start winner at Newcastle when producing the best last 200m sectional of the day to fly over the top of his rivals and win by 1.2 lengths, however that race was over 1850m and he drops back to the mile (8:0-3-2), which looks too short for him.
