The Mungindi Jockey Club have run into some bad luck for the second year in a row, with the current Covid-19 pandemic putting a stop to their meeting on Saturday.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the club’s committee admitted it was a ‘tough’ decision to cancel their meeting.

“Unfortunately, the Jockey Club committee have had to make the tough decision in cancelling this year’s race meet due to the latest enforced Covid-19 restrictions,” the Facebook post read.

“Thank you to everyone who has purchased tickets, there will be a full refund available soon. We will see you all in 2022.”

Not all is lost though, with the Moree Race Club stepping up to host the meeting.

The Saturday meeting that is so commonly referred to as “The back to Mungindi weekend” is now the “The Mungindi back to Moree weekend.”

There is a six-race card and 65 gallopers have accepted, making for a good day’s racing.

Covid-19 requirements will be in place, including check-in, mask-wearing and social-distancing.

Racing kicks off at 1pm, entry is free and more information can be found at the Moree Race Club Facebook page.
