Narrandera and the Southern Districts mourn the loss of Peter Bloomfield

The late Mr Peter Bloomfield.

Narrandera Race Club would like extend their sincere condolences to Carmel Bloomfied and family on the sad passing of Peter.

Peter was a much loved worker and racing character around the club with many years of loyal service as track manager and general handy man worker the keep the facility in good and safe condition.

A true colourful racing identity who bought a smile to the face to all he came in contact with.

Peters racing experience and knowledge has been of great assistance to many a committee in general and individuals on the committee specifically.

He and Carmel opened their doors of their stables for visiting trainers both overnight and on race days when stalls where a premium. All FOC with a smile and great help promoting the club.

The Club and Racing in the Southern Districts area will be the poorer for the passing of Peter .

Peter had had a long Racing life which started when he left school in Leeton to work for leading Trainer Peter Clancy.

After what would have been a strong education in the art of jockeying. Peter went to Sydney to be a track work rider for the legendary TJ Smith after some time and again more experience he returned to the area in 1966 to start actual apprenticeship to JJ Carrol. He then Later transferred to JD Carroll (DIgger)

Peter transferred to Sydney under care of master trainer Les Bridge.

The next stage was to come back to Wagga as a Jockey after stint in Sydney.

In 1976 Peter trained for first time at Ganmain. Then went to Leeton to train.

1985 Carmel and Peter set up in Narrandera on the course and family and stable grew from there. Starting with Peter making a comeback as a jockey and Carmel geting a trainers licence.

Inn 1986 Peter retired permanently and took out a trainers licence and continued to build up the  infrastructure of his stables and number of horses in work. Between then and his retirement in January 2018.

His family all had exposure to horses in some way. Andrew as a leading jockey in Southern Districts, Shane as an accomplished track rider and now following his dad, grandfather and great grandfather into training.

Uncle Wayne Carroll also a successful trainer. Granson Kye recently won first race as a trotting driver.

Peter and Carmel have instilled a great work ethic in their family for which we are sure they are very proud.

Rest In Peace Peter. Narrandera and the racing industry thank you for all your work and support of racingg all round.
