Racing Australia appoint new CEO and CIO

The Racing Australia Board is pleased to announce Paul Eriksson as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The Racing Australia Board is pleased to announce Paul Eriksson as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Con Horaitis as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Eriksson was chosen for the role in September after an extensive and extremely competitive selection process and will bring to the organisation a wealth of industry and non-industry experience.

Eriksson most recently spent over three years as CEO of Tasracing. He previously served as Group CFO for Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Clubs, Cronulla Sharks, and their Property Development.

He also served as Acting CEO of Cronulla Sharks and was the founding CFO of the Greater Western Sydney Giants Football Club (GWS Giants).

Amongst his other experience Paul is a Chartered Accountant and spent five years as the GM of Finance and IT with Racing NSW as well as serving as IT Manager and CIO for various organisations.

Paul’s strong and recent industry experience running a State Principal Racing Authority responsible for all three codes ensures he has a deep understanding of the industry and of what the industry expects and requires from Racing Australia and as a consequence is fully aligned with the vision of the Racing Australia Board for Racing Australia.

Commenting on his appointment Paul said: “Australia is a leading participant in thoroughbred breeding and racing globally and I feel privileged to be appointed CEO. I am excited by the challenge and look forward to working with all participants, Principal Racing Authorities, State and Federal governments and International Associations to help the industry continue to grow and excel.”

Following on from Eriksson’s appointment, Horaitis was selected as CIO earlier this month, which again came from a very strong field of candidates and an extensive and extremely competitive selection process.

The addition of a CIO to the executive structure of Racing Australia follows a review by the Racing Australia Board.

The Chief Information Officer is a strategic and operational position that will assume responsibility not only for the day-to-day operation of Racing Australia’s Infrastructure and Software but also the strategic direction of the technology investment.

This role is key to the successful operations of Racing Australia’s bespoke technology stack that services the operations of the Racing industry across Australia, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Con joins Racing Australia from a global Real Estate organisation, where he served as Regional Technology Director, Australasia.

He has previously served as Director of Technology and Property for a large national regulator and has held multiple other senior technology leadership appointments for several global financial services organisations, locally and abroad.
