Ribeiro takes commanding lead in WRA Picnic Jockey’s Premiership

The first two meetings of the 2023 Western Racing Association Jockey’s Premiership are in the books following race days at Tottenham Picnic Races in March and Back O Bourke Picnic Race Club in April.

The WRA title race has Sydney jockey Leandro Ribeiro well out in front on 50 points, while Breanna Bourke on 32 points and Ricky Blewitt on 22 points round out the top-three.

Ribeiro was in fine touch at Tottenham, winning five of the six races on the program, including a good win in the Tottenham Picnic Cup on the Connie Greig-trained Inzaghi.

Ribeiro, who is NSW’s leading picnic jockey (30 wins at 44.10%), then rode a winning double at Bourke.

Many pundits will say the WRA Picnic Jockey’s Premiership is now a one-horse race, but with five meetings to go, the likes of Blewitt and Bourke can make a late charge.

WRA picnic action heads to Marthaguy Picnic Race Club on May 6.
