Narrandera Race Club will bring their 2021 season to a close on Saturday with the running of the TC Lee Memorial race day.
The third and final meeting of Narrandera’s winter racing season is traditionally a big social event for the town and region, and while fashions on the field and entertainment had to be cancelled due to the ever-changing nature of Covid-19, Racing Manager Michael Bailey was still hoping to host a good crowd.
“It was going to be a big fashions on the field, but with everything the way it is, we weren’t prepared to take the risk,” Bailey said.
“We have a few marquees booked, and we are already booked out in our function centre, and we have some more tables happening outside.
“The weather is looking good and with the good fields, we should attract a good crowd and it should be a top day of racing.”
After racing four times in 2020 without any crowds, Bailey said the club was just pleased to host three good meetings this season.
“We are very lucky we can race with crowds at all this season. We went all of last year without crowds,” Bailey said.
“Whilst they are not what they are used to be, they have been good crowds and it has been a good year.”
The meeting is a special day for the club, with members honouring the late Tom Lee, who gave over a half a century of his life to the race club.
“The TC Lee Memorial Day is important, as Tom was a member of the committee of over 50 years; he has given the OAM and has been recognised for his services to the club and racing in the region,” Bailey said.
At this stage, Narrandera is a soft five and with the good weather, a strong six-race-program consisting of 75 acceptors is set to keep racing fans entertained.
Racing jumps at 12.36pm and racing fans can find more information by visiting the Narrandera Race Club Facebook page.
